Our after-school Acting and Film Production programs begin again in mid-September with all-new content, and run for 15 weeks. Courses are available for ages 11-17 and taught by industry professionals. With arts programs facing more cuts in schools, and a creative mindset more important than ever, there has never been a better time to explore the arts!

Our actors LOVE our caring and inspirational instructor, Marina Gomes. “This year we will be exploring how classic theatre techniques can be used to tell  important stories that mean something to a modern audience,” Marina says. As part of this ‘ancient to modern’ approach, actors will explore comedy and tragedy, learning how to tell both kinds of stories in the characters they create. They’ll look at what Greek theatre can tell us about choral speaking and stage presence, discover more about voice by tackling Shakespeare and create their own mask characters inspired by Italian Commedia Dell’arte. Along the way, actors will laugh, play games, improvise, make friends and build confidence through performance.

Check out our Film Production Programs!

Our film instructor – Ben Lavoie – has a unique and varied background in film, and this will inspire the content of this interactive after-school program. Ben started out as a ‘child star’ in European film and TV (!!), moving to Canada as a young adult to attend film school. Since then, he’s worked in independent film in Toronto as a director, producer and writer. He’s a passionate artist and keen instructor who believes strongly in the excitement of visual storytelling. Young filmmakers can expect to have fun, make friends and learn a lot in this hands-on program, as they tackle film experiments, learn about the medium, and take their own short film from storyboard to final edits.

A fun tip about Ben: he first developed a love of film in our overnight camps, many years ago, as a teenager!
