Join us for evening and weekend arts workshops this Fall in Toronto!
Our first semester at the Centauri Arts Academy begins on Saturday 21 September, and most of our classes have space – so there’s still time to join our arts community and flex your creative muscles! We have expanded our creative writing programs, so there’s spots available in all three classes, and we also have space in our Tuesday Acting course. Film on Thursdays is now full for the first semester, but space remains in semester two.
Creative Writing Workshops
Explore multiple writing techniques and try varied and inspiring prompts in one of our THREE creative writing courses this Fall!
Our Saturday morning class is open to ages 10-15 and taught by centre director, Julie Hartley. Julie has an MFA in Creative Writing and has published widely, including a young adult novel, and a book on Shakespeare. Her poetry collection will be released by Mansfield Press next month.
Writers aged 12-18 can choose to sign up for either a general and varied creative writing class on Monday evenings, or a class on Wednesdays which has a focus on writing short fiction. Our Monday evening instructor is Tracy Wai De Boer. Tracy has taught Creative Writing at Centauri Summer Arts Camp, and she is a workshop facilitator with the Toronto Writer’s Collective. She has held a residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and published widely – poetry, short fiction and more.
Glenn Clifton is the instructor for our Wednesday short fiction class. Glenn, who has taught for Centauri for more than two decades, is a Professor in Sheridan College’s Creative Writing & Publishing Program. He holds an MA in Playwriting and a PhD in English Literature.
The Centauri Actors’ Studio
Join the Centauri Actors’ Company on Tuesday evenings! This 14-week course includes classes in voice, movement, improv, character development, scene study and more. The instructor for this program is the wonderful Erica May Wood. Erica is a graduate of LAMDA, a prestigious drama school in London, England, and she now works as a professional performer, director, teacher, producer and writer. Erica runs her own theatre company in Toronto, and as an RCM-certified Artist Educator she works in schools, professional theatres and community settings.
Film Production
While our film class is now full for semester 1, there’s still time to sign up for semester 2, beginning in February! Film students explore a variety of roles behind and in front of the camera, including director, DOP, lighting and audio. Students work on a short film together, which is premiered in June.
