Film Classes in Bloor West Village, Toronto
Ages 12-17, In our Bloor West Village Studio:
Thursdays, 5pm – 6.30pm AND 7.30pm-9.00pm and Saturdays 2.30pm-4.00pm
Discover the art of film-making – and act in front of the camera, too, if you wish! Learn – or review – the basics of film making: story-boarding, directing, camera operation, audio, lighting and production design. Each hands-on film course begins with a sequence of short film projects; by rising to challenges set by the instructor and critiquing the results, students further the skills they need to create their own short film. Discover how to tell a story visually, and how to create mood and tension through your manipulation of the film medium. Rotate between production jobs as you film your movie in the Centauri studio and on location. In each semester, film students create a short film inspired by a movie genre, film director or by a concept introduced by the instructor.

In our Bloor West Village Studio:
Wednesdays, 5.00pm-6.30pm Ages 11-16
Our Fine Art classes take place in our Bloor West Village Studio, which is an easy 5-minute walk from Runnymede subway station. Young artists attend from Swansea, High Park, The Junction and Bloor West neighbourhoods, and from all over Toronto. Our fine art classes include projects in sketching, cartoon creation, acrylics, watercolour, sculpture and more, all led by a professional artist. Why take a fine art class? It’s a great way for young people to explore their creativity at a time when cut-backs to education are impacting arts programs in schools. Plus, painting and drawing are great ways for young people to manage their stress. Our art studio is a relaxing space where young artists can focus on their own projects, working at their own pace.

Our digital art classes take place online, and we welcome young people from across Ontario and further afield. Build a digital marketing campaign, create a fantasy world, design a theme park, and more! Digital art classes unlock creativity – and they also increase proficiency in programs such as Canva, that students use in school. Plus, digital art skills have real-world applications.

Our Creative Writing Classes bring together young people who love to write, and experienced writers who have the skills to teach, nurture and inspire. Beginner and experienced writers are welcome! Young writers explore plot, character, setting, structure and editing as they build community, discover their writer’s voice and experiment with form and style. Projects are varied and include poetry, playwriting, screenwriting, fantasy world-building, genre fiction, novel structure, flash fiction, graphic novel writing and more.
