Our ‘Short Story Creation’ camp is now well underway at the Centauri Arts Academy! We began by asking ourselves why we write, and the ‘tools’ we use to inspire our creative writing. All campers created statements exploring the reasons why they write, and used these to create a personal list poem in which every line began “I write with…”. Writers shared their favourite lines with a partner, who also helped them edit the lines for maximum impact. Finally, each writer submitted their favourite line, and these were combined to form a collaborative poem entitled: We Write With…
Here is the result – which demonstrates the talent and wisdom of this incredible group of young writers:
We Write With…
A collective writing piece from the “How to Write a Short Story” Camp.
We write with the depths of imagination
We write with the wonders of the world and why the world works
We write with the roaring waves at a beach
We write with a hunger to be seen and heard
We write with melancholy and love
We write with anger and regret for my past
We write with the mystery and the death of horror
We write with myself, each line a silent plea
We write with a tornado whirling with mystery and fear
We write with truth and reality
We write with other friend’s ideas
We write with my pride and joy from the tip of my head
We write with the beauty of the earth I see through my eyes and others
We write with a little bubble around myself, not noticing the world around me
We write with my confusion, so we can figure out this crazy world together
