Writing workshop at the Writing retreat1) Creative Writing Retreats provide the opportunity to focus exclusively on writing.

Leave the pressures of work, family and responsibility behind – and just be a writer.

2) A Creative Writing Retreat brings together like-minded individuals.

Whether you write fiction, memoir, poetry or children’s literature, there’s a good chance others in your life do not. You’ll connect with writers from different places and different walks of life in a writing retreat, and build community together.

3) Get inspired by somewhere new!

Creative writing retreats like ours take place in spectacular locations. When we feel inspired by new places and new ideas, we create in a way that has never been possible before.

4) Creative Writing Workshops on a retreat enable you to expand your knowledge about the craft of writing.

On writing retreats with Centauri Arts, you’ll spend 2-3 hours each morning in writing workshops. We discuss ideas and apply them to our writing. Whether we’re talking about planning, character, point of view, plot, poetry technique or editing, you’re learning more about a writer’s craft.

5) A Creative Writing Retreat offers you the time to write!

When you withdraw from the pressures of daily life, putting pen to paper is easier than ever before.

6) Creative Writing Retreats are holidays, too!

In Costa Rica, you can take guided night walks in the rainforest, climb the foothills of a volcano, view sloths and toucans, go to the hot springs and try zip lining. On our Mexican writing retreat you can attend festivals, tour Mayan ruins, spend an afternoon on the beach, view flamingos and visit traditional villages. Writing retreats are a chance to combine a holiday adventure with the creative activity you love best.

7) On a Creative Writing Retreat, inspiration happens not just in structured workshops, but all the time.

We meet in the evenings over cocktails to talk about our writing, or the books we love. We share ideas about getting an agent, approaching publishers or self-publishing. It’s not unknown for our writers to talk together well into the night!

8) On a creative writing retreat you have access to a professional editor

We can help you shape your material, no matter whether you are writing a first draft, or polishing a piece for publication. As host instructor for all the writing retreats with Centauri Arts, I spend many of my afternoons on our retreats working one on one with our writers and their manuscripts. Plus, writers read their work for the group if they wish to do so, receiving feedback from others.

9) If you enjoy writing, a creative writing retreat is the perfect way to take a solo trip

… but with all the benefits that come from community.  If you want to be alone, you can do so. If you feel like company, there are always others looking for the same. We share the costs of transportation when we sight-see, and great friendships are made along the way. If you prefer to bring family or friends, all our creative writing retreats can accommodate that, too.

10) A creative writing retreat is never over when it is finished!

Our writers regularly form book clubs, writing groups and long-term friendships. Several writers even return to our retreats, year after year.
