A week on a creative writing retreat can be truly transformative and we are THRILLED to announce that we will be offering TWO very different Creative Writing Retreats in gorgeous Costa Rica, in early 2026!
Writing Retreat One: Las Cascadas, Quepos, Costa Rica.
24th January- 31 January 2026
Our location for this week-long retreat is a boutique hotel surrounded by rainforest, a 5-minute walk from the beautiful new marina, and a 10-minute walk along the seafront to the town of Quepos. There are even scarlet macaws nesting on the property! Writers will stay in 2- and 3-bedroom cottages with A/C, and in addition to morning workshops, can choose from sightseeing options such as a trip to Manual Antonio National Park, a sunset boat tour, kayaking in the mangroves and an afternoon on the beach.
Writing Retreat Two: Arenal Observatory Lodge, Costa Rica.
31 January- 7 February 2026
Choose this writing retreat for serenity and complete immersion in glorious rainforest. The lodge is spread over 300 hectares at the base of Arenal Volcano, with spectacular views over the volcano and lake. Writers stay in private rooms with ensuite facilities, or in a 5-bedroom cottage. Most activities take place on site (there are nature tours, hikes, waterfall walks, bird-watching tours, night hikes, viewing platforms, a pool, hot tub, spa and small museum). We will take the 35-minute drive into La Fortuna mid week, to enjoy the hot springs.

Merida is a city rich with culture and beautiful architecture, located in the Yucatan. There are galleries, museums and historical sites an easy walk from our boutique hotel. As with all our retreats, the mornings are spent in writing workshops. In the afternoon you can take trips to Mayan ruins, a tour to see the flamingos at Celestun, and more. Merida has amazing restaurants and many street festivals.
